If you ask me how my week is going. I will sigh, shake my head a little, and say, “I’m just so busy.”
And that is the truth. Between running businesses, managing teams, and trying to have some sense of a personal life, my to-do list looks like a betting game slip.
But lately, I’ve been asking myself a hard question, and I want to ask you the same one today: Are you making progress, or are you only moving in a circle?
In Nigeria here, we wear “busy” like a badge of honor. We think that if we’re exhausted, answering emails at 11 PM, and running from one fire to the next, we must be doing something right. But here is the reality I’ve had to learn the hard way:
Movement is not the same thing as momentum.
You can spend ten hours a day doing shallow work, tweaking your website logo, replying to irrelevant messages, endlessly organizing your desk and feel so busy. But at the end of the week, the needle hasn’t moved an inch on the things that matter.
I had same experience when building iPropty website. I was so lost in design that I forgot what is most important is that we publish properties. Only then can we enjoy the gift of SEO and ROI.
True visionaries and effective builders know how to eliminate distractions. My friend, on’t just manage their time; protect your focus. They know the difference between the noise (things screaming for your attention) and the signal (things that build your future).
So, here is my challenge to you for today. Stop trying to do fifty things at 10% capacity. Look at your endless to-do list and ask yourself: What is the one single task today that will move my life, my career, or my business forward?
Do that first. Let the other 49 things wait. Let some minor fires burn. It’s okay if you aren’t responsive to everyone all the time. Your goal is impact, not just attendance.
Take a breath. Reclaim your focus.
Keep building. See you tomorrow if God wills.
Let your eyes look straight ahead; fix your gaze directly before you. Give careful thought to the paths for your feet and be steadfast in all your ways.— Proverbs 4:25-26
