If you pay attention to the sports news, you saw Coach Madugu released the Super Falcons squad. You will find in his squad, stars like Asisat Oshoala, Chiamaka Nnadozie, and more. All to defend the WAFCON title.
It got me thinking about a phase of business that nobody warns you about: the day after you win.
Getting to the top is an incredible, exhausting climb. When you are the underdog, you have a natural, built-in fire. You are hungry because you have to eat.
But what happens when you get to the top? You go from being the hunter to being the hunted. You become the benchmark everybody else is trying to beat. All eyes on you.
The moment after a customers pays you, that’s when true support begins.
The mindset that won you the crown is not enough to help you keep it. The marketing strategies of yesterday are not enough for today. In due season, you must review, adjust and improve.
When you succeed, it is tempting to play not to lose, instead of playing to win. Defense now matters to you than attack. You become protective of your territory rather than exploring new ideas.
And that’s why it is easy to see what is wrong with leaders and speak against it. But when you get there, you notice you start to defend same thing you spoke against.
But in life and business the moment you become defensive, you start declining.
So, if you are sitting on a recent win right now. I must congratulate you. Enjoy it for a moment. But it’s time, you manufacture a new hunger. Set a system so audacious that your past success looks like a play.
Don’t only protect your position. Raise the standard.
“I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.”— Revelation 3:11 (NIV)
Keep building. See you tomorrow if God wills.
