You Need Something To Look Forward To

We need to look forward to the future in order to survive. Not because everything is alright, because it certainly is not. There will always be something to worry about: bills to pay, problems to solve, and issues in the country. Other times it is events occurring in your family, or something about your own self which you wish could change. But obviously, living can’t be all about solving the problems.

You can’t wake up every day, stare at the outside world and start finding fault with whatever you see. You need to have something at some point which gives you an incentive to get up from bed in the morning. Some work in progress which needs completion, some destination to reach, or someone to become. It could be a book to complete, or a company to run successfully, or even a little dream which makes sense to you alone.

There was a time when each day turned into an eternal struggle for mere survival. I would solve a problem, but there would always be another one waiting for me. I would pay off one bill, but another would follow. As I am completing one task, another three would already have been waiting for me.

If we live this way, it’s easy to forget that we do not exist on earth just to solve daily random problems.

Maybe this is exactly why having something to look forward to is so important. It adds some colour to our future. And sometimes, when life in the present is tough, this is exactly what we need.

And this is what I have been thinking about lately: What are you excited about? Not what problem are you solving? It’s what you are worried about. Not what deserves your attention? What are you looking forward to?

I believe we need to keep asking ourselves this question. Because the future is not supposed to be just the place where our problems will be waiting for us. The future is also supposed to be the place where at least some of our joys will be waiting.

And if you don’t feel any right now, maybe it does not mean that you should be panicking. Maybe it means that it’s time to create something. Something to look forward to. Something that would make you say: “I want to know what comes next.”

For me, one thing I am proud of for the future is iPropty.
