If you read Ecclesiastes 5:4-5, it talks about not making foolish promises, and when you do make them, keeping them.

4 When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. 5 It is better to say nothing than to make a promise and not keep it.

While you may believe that scripture only concerns your relationship with God, it also guides your relationship with yourself. After all, the scripture says that you are gods (Psalm 82:6).

The Almighty God, in His infinite mercy, can cope with our deficiencies when we cannot meet our promises. But can your soul do the same?

A great disservice we do to ourselves in our careers and lives is breaking our own promises. It kills our self-esteem so fast that we don’t even realize it.

Every time you break a promise to yourself, you subconsciously tell your soul and spirit: “I am not enough. I lack the capacity.”

And so you wonder why you find it difficult to confront your fears, let alone succeed in your goals.

It’s time to fulfil your word. To do so, keep the promises you make to yourself to the barest minimum. Don’t make two, three, or four. Just one a day is enough.

Focus your attention and resources until you achieve that one thing. Don’t worry about the next; just fulfill this. It is only a matter of time before you regain your lost confidence.
