Andrés Iniesta, the wicked former Barcelona midfielder who scored the most epic goal in Spanish football history, is calling it quits.
The midfielder from La Mancha has rushed to make a decision about staying active for another season, but at 40 years old, he’s decided to end his incredibly successful football career with an event on the 8th, as his jersey number.
The World Cup final goal scorer was in Dubai with his family, training and staying in shape for a new career adventure.
Iniesta expressed his desire to continue playing, as he stated in Barcelona recently.
“I feel like I’d like to keep playing football, until I feel that moment of stopping has come to me, I’ll try to play. I’d also like to get my coaching title and see what the future holds.” he said.
Right now, Iniesta will just get all the love from Spanish football and his fans after an amazing career.
Iniesta, a prodigy in the world of football, gained fame at the Brunete Tournament and then left Albacete to join Barcelona as a kid. And with the Barça shirt, he made football history.
He achieved it all with Barça (4 Champions League, 3 Club World Cups, 9 Leagues, 3 European Super Cups, 6 Copa del Rey, and 7 Spanish Super Cups) and became a major player in world football.
He was a giant with Barça, but a legend with the Spanish National Team. Iniesta won it all with La Roja during the national team’s golden era.
He won two European Championships (MVP in 2012) and, most importantly, a World Cup that brought together 47 million Spaniards when he scored in extra time against the Netherlands in the final.
Now everyone’s wondering what he’ll do next?
“Obviously I would like to return to Barça at some point in my life, because that’s how I feel it, but to say now the moment or in what way I don’t know, nor does anyone know, let’s see how things go during this time and then we’ll see where we are,” he said a few weeks ago.
