An APC chieftain in Akwa Ibom State expressed gratitude to Governor Umo Eno for bailing out Senate President Godswill Akpabio from a major political mess in the local elections.
The PDP won in 30 out of 31 local government areas in Akwa Ibom State, according to the results announced on Sunday.
They held the election on Saturday.
The APC Chieftain, Etim Etim, said
“Let me begin by thanking Governor Umo Eno for allowing the APC candidate win the Local Government election in Essien Udim LGA, Senator Akpabio’s LGA,”.
“By allowing (the) APC to win in Akpabio’s backyard, Gov. Umo Eno has saved the Senate President a huge political embarrassment, cemented the cordial relationship between the two leaders and formally signalled the nature of the game that would be played in 2027.
“A political alliance is being constructed between the Senate President and the governor, and this will shape the politics of 2027,”
Meanwhile, the election commission first announced that the PDP candidate won in Mr. Akpabio’s local government area.
A circulating video clip shows Inyang Atting, the returning officer, declaring the election results. The PDP candidate scored 55,612 votes while the APC candidate scored 686.
Mr. Atting, a professor at the University of Uyo, made a declaration shortly after the election on Saturday.
“That Enobong Friday of PDP, having complied with the requirement of the law and scored the majority of votes, is hereby declared elected.
“I want to add that Enobong Friday, in addition to scoring the majority votes, had more than 25 per cent in all the 13 wards of Essien Udim Local Government Area,”
But on Sunday, the election commission revealed that the winner of the election in Essien Udim was the APC candidate, not the PDP’s.
My Personal Note:
Wisdom demands that it is better to lose the battle but win the war.
That’s, sometimes it’s better to say you are sorry and ask for forgiveness even when you are right than lose the relationship.
In politics, there is no permanent enemies, no permanent friends but permanent interests. Today, you can be here; tomorrow you are there.
Than to disgrace his brother at the federal level, Governor Eno rescued him. I hope Senate President Akpabio will remember this for good.
In return, this will help the state attracts projects from the federal level.
Remember, it’s better to make peace than be right.
