As Ramadan ends, Muslims worldwide are getting ready for Eid al-Fitr, the “festival of breaking the fast”.
According to the stars, Ramadan will be 30 days this year, so Eid will most likely be on Wednesday, April 10 in Saudi Arabia and nearby countries.
The celebration of Eid al-Fitr begins when we spot the crescent moon, signaling the start of Shawwal in the Islamic calendar.
Muslims usually have to wait till the night before Eid to find out when it is since lunar months last between 29 and 30 days.
Moon sighters will gather after sunset prayers to spot the crescent moon.
If they see the new moon, then the next day will be Eid al-Fitr. If not, Muslims will fast one more day to make it a 30-day month.
Usually, Eid lasts for three days and is a public holiday in Muslim countries. However, this varies with countries.

How do Muslims Celebrate Eid al-Fitr Mubarak?
Muslims kick off Eid al-Fitr Mubarak day celebrations in an open area with a prayer service in the morning, followed by a short sermon.
While heading to the prayer ground, Muslims recite takbeerat, praising God by saying “Allahu Akbar”, which means “God is great”.
After the morning prayers, some families will visit graveyards to honor their departed loved ones.
Parents with their children dressed in new clothes go around visiting family and friends, celebrating with one another.
The distribution of sweets is a common practice during the festival. So, it is customary to eat something sweet before the prayer, such as date.
The celebration for Eid begins the night before as women gather to apply henna on their hands and legs.
