On Tuesday, former President Donald Trump made it clear that if he were to be re-elected, he would exercise his veto power to oppose a federal abortion ban.
“Everyone knows I would not support a federal abortion ban, under any circumstances, and would, in fact, veto it, because it is up to the states to decide based on the will of their voters (the will of the people!)”
“Like Ronald Reagan before me, I fully support the three exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother,” Trump continued.
The GOP nominee keeps saying he won’t sign a federal abortion ban, but in the ABC debate with VP Kamala Harris, he wouldn’t promise to veto it and instead said he wouldn’t need to.
When asked about Vance’s statement during the debate, Trump denied having talked to him and said, “I don’t think he was speaking on my behalf.”
Abortion is a major factor in the 2024 race, and Harris has a clear edge. That’s why she’s got more support from women voters in both national and swing states.
Democrats have had success in elections centered around abortion, even in conservative states.
Trump presents himself as a “protector” of women, suggesting that abortion won’t be a concern if he’s elected.
