Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State led a group to the RSIEC office in Port Harcourt on Friday to stop an alleged break-in and theft of election materials.
Word has it that the cops from Abia State showed up and tried to pull something off, but Governor Fubara and his crew foiled their plans.
In response, top government officials, like the governor’s Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, and the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Victor Oko Jumbo, along with National Assembly members who support Governor Fubara, got together at the RSIEC office to step in and prevent the operation.
A group of police officers went rogue and tried to steal election materials last night.
The IGP allegedly initiated the operation. But their plans were ruined when security personnel tipped off the Commission and government officials, who quickly contacted the Governor.
Fubara called out the police outside the RSIEC Office, saying the IGP was crossing the line with certain politicians in Abuja.
He didn’t like that they took away the police and brought in a unit from a different state. Fubara made it clear that state governments handle local elections and told the IGP to stay out of it.
