Actress Habiba Sinare discussed her divorce from footballer Abdul Majeed Waris, and vow not to marry a northerner again.
“I’m a Northerner but I cannot marry a Northerner again, and I’m not even joking. Dating them is something else, but marrying them is horribly something else,” she said.
The actress said that in her experience, guys from the North are more old-fashioned when it comes to gender roles, especially in terms of a woman’s career and money.
“They are very difficult people. They don’t understand why you should work, they don’t understand why you should even have more money than your husband. Why?” Sinare questioned.
In the interview, she also told a really sad story about her ex-father-in-law, which made her marriage even harder.
She thought everything was great with her ex’s dad until he started doubting her child’s father.
“My father-in-law used to call me princess and sweetheart because his wife is also named Habiba, and he really liked me—at least, that’s what I thought.
But one day, after I complained to him about something my ex-husband did, he shocked me by saying, ‘The child is not from him, don’t worry.’ That broke my heart.”
“They didn’t understand why I got pregnant so soon after the marriage. But situations happen. It takes less than a minute to conceive, and people don’t even know,” she added.
Habiba Sinare, who’s been through a lot since the divorce, said her ex-husband and his family made her not want to do the marriage thing again.
