Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State said he’ll have a big say in who takes over after him in 2027.
On Thursday, during the report meeting at the Governor’s Office in Ibadan, Makinde spoke out to those trying to take his job.
He talked about how important his role is, but he knows it’s up to the voters in the end.
“I may not have the final say in who takes over, but I will definitely have my input,” he said.
Makinde told those who want to take over to be patient and wait until closer to the election.
He stressed how important the ruling PDP is in this process, saying that party dynamics will be key in shaping the final decision.
“As the current leader of the party in Oyo State, I will be involved in discussions and deliberations that will guide our choice,” he added.
When the governor heard the Committee report, he promised to leave a lasting impact on the state’s civil service by going digital and getting rid of delays in the workforce.
He says most of the Public Service Rules are outdated, so they need to review them to match global standards and improve the State Civil and Public Service.
Makinde praised the committee and said their work not only supported his goal of leaving a great legacy in the state, but also would improve conditions for state workers.
Chief Adebisi Adesola, who used to be a Chairman and Head of service in the state, said if they follow these recommendations, they will see better results and delivery like they do globally.
“If implemented, these changes will result in greater output and better service delivery in line with global best practices.”
Adesola further remarked, “This transformation is not just a procedural update; it represents a fundamental shift in how we view public service.”
“By embracing modern practices, we can foster a culture of accountability and efficiency that will ultimately benefit all citizens of Oyo State.”
