Idris Elba To Replace Pete Edochie in Things Fall Apart TV Series

Pete Edochie, a renowned actor, had the privilege of portraying the iconic character ‘Okonkwo’ in the 1987 NTA adaptation of Chinua Achebe’s novel Things Fall Apart.

Variety reports Idris Elba will play Pete Edochie’s role in the new TV version of Things Fall Apart.

Things Fall Apart, according to the producer is the “story of Okonkwo (Elba), one of literature’s most iconic character.

A fearless African warrior and leader who is resolute about preserving his people and culture.

As British colonizers disrupt his world, Okonkwo’s struggle to maintain power and tradition spirals into a heart-wrenching confrontation.

His fierce resolve, a fatal flaw in the face of unstoppable change, makes him an unforgettable character, embodying the tension between strength, vulnerability and adaptability.”

Things Fall Apart was published in 1958 when Achebe was just 28 years old. It’s considered one of the most important African literary works, translated into 50+ languages and selling over 10 million copies.

The TV adaptation is being developed by A24, according to Variety.

Idris Elba is gonna be the lead (Okonkwo) in the new movie, Things Fall Apart.

David Oyelowo and Amanda N’Duka are in on this project too, along with Ben Forkner, Dayo Ogunyemi, and Achebe Masterworks.

No writer has been confirmed, but Elba and Gina Carter will be handling the production. Also, they haven’t revealed the supporting cast, crew, or location yet.
