Jimmy Carter, the first US president to reach 100 years old, celebrates his milestone birthday on Tuesday.
Carter, a Democrat who was in the White House from 1977 to 1981, has been in hospice care in Georgia for the past 19 months.
But Jimmy Carter, who got into politics in the 60s as a state senator, is still emotionally engaged and having a good time.
And the centenarian still wants to get involved in politics, saying he wants to vote for Kamala Harris in November’s election.
To celebrate the occasion, Habitat for Humanity volunteers – the housing charity Carter has been involved with for 40 years – are building 30 homes in Minnesota this week.
“It was an incredible evening, full of good music and heartfelt tributes, and it made history as the first-ever 100th birthday celebration for a living American president,” Carter said.
The concert, which raised over $1.2m and also had messages from other presidents, will be on Georgia Public Broadcasting on Tuesday.
The former president will be watching the broadcast on Tuesday, his family said.
Carter couldn’t make it to the concert, but he showed up in November 2023 for his wife Rosalynn’s memorial service. She passed away at 96.
