Governor Seyi Makinde made it clear in Ibadan on Saturday that he’s committed to paying the ₦70,000 minimum wage to workers in Oyo State.
Makinde gave his word to primary school teachers at the NUT event for World Teachers Day in 2024.
He declared that discussions regarding the adjustment of the minimum wage would commence next week.
The governor has extended the payment of the wage award by three months, from October to December.
“We have extended the wage award by three months, and if we are able to conclude the negotiation in between this period, we will drop the wage award payment and get into the minimum wage payment,” he said.
Makinde assured teachers that they can count on his government to take care of them.
He said that for any country to progress, they need to educate their people, and teachers are the ones who make it happen.
Makinde asked the teachers to keep supporting him in improving the education sector of the state.
The NUT State Chairman, Raji Oladimeji, urged the governor to hurry up with the teacher recruitment and get them into classrooms ASAP.
Oladimeji thanked the governor for caring about workers and told him to keep taking care of teachers.
