Senator Monday Okpebholo, who emerged as the winner of the Edo State Governorship election, was officially awarded a certificate of return by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The certificate was awarded to Okpebholo at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, September 26, 2024.
As the election results were announced, it became evident that Okpebholo had emerged as the winner with a remarkable total of 291,667 votes, defeating Asue Ighodalo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
On the other hand, Olumide Akpata, representing the Labour Party (LP), lagged far behind in third place with 22,763 votes.
At the same time, the PDP and its candidate have expressed their disagreement with the poll’s outcome, claiming that the election was manipulated.
In his response to the election result on Monday, Ighodalo pointed out that his defeat was due to external forces that were actively going against the desires of the people.
He asserted that the day would forever remain ingrained in our collective memory as one of our darkest hours, underscored by the shameless act of illegally seizing their mandate.
Regardless of the result, Ighodalo maintained a resolute attitude and urged his supporters to stay dedicated to the cause.
Expressing his belief in the temporary nature of evil prevailing over good, he promised to persevere in his endeavors to bring positive change to Edo State.
In response, the PDP made a firm commitment to utilize all available legal avenues in order to regain its rightful mandate.
According to Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman, despite facing intimidations and manipulations, the results obtained from the polling units clearly indicated that Ighodalo emerged as the winner of the election, before the figures were allegedly altered.
I knew APC will rigged this election…
Wish there was unity in PDP, this wouldn’t have happened.
