The PDP is going through some serious drama right now with the suspension of the National Chairman and National Secretary by a faction in the NWC.
This latest suspension is just another example of party members getting in trouble, showing that Nigeria’s main opposition party is really divided.
The whole dispute started when they suspended Debo Ologunagba and Kamaldeen Ajibade for speaking out about following the PDP constitution.
The suspensions were just announced by Chinwe Nnorom, the PDP’s National Director of Publicity. The decision was made during the NWC’s 593rd meeting.
Nnorom said that Ologunagba and Ajibade have been told to “take a break while they investigate the accusations against them.”
Ologunagba fired back on Friday, saying the NWC suspended Damagum and Anyanwu because of their recent actions.
The faction mentioned a letter the leaders sent to the Court of Appeal, where they disagreed with the PDP in a case about 27 former Rivers State Assembly members who switched to the APC.
The National Working Committee is not happy with the Acting National Chairman and National Secretary for going against the PDP Constitution and their Oath of Office.
The statement mentioned sections 57, 58, and 59 of the party’s constitution.
This internal clash shows that there are ongoing power struggles within the PDP.
The NWC has appointed a committee, headed by Deputy National Chairman (South) Taofeek Arapaja, to look into the allegations.
Right now, Damagum and Anyanwu can’t join in any NWC meetings or activities until the committee finishes its investigation.
This could seriously impact the PDP’s leadership and unity before important elections.
