The Rivers State Police Command has explained that it deployed operatives to the State Electoral Commission (SIEC) office to stop hoodlums from trying to burn it down.
Grace Iringe-Koko, the Police Superintendent and Public Relations Officer, said they got info that some thugs were gonna set the RSIEC office on fire.
In response, police personnel were promptly dispatched on Thursday night to safeguard the facility.
Initially, policemen from the State Government House were deployed to the RSIEC office, but they were later withdrawn due to a court order prohibiting police involvement in the electoral process.
You could remember Fubara calls out IGP for interfering with River’s state LG elections.
She said…
“The attention of the Rivers State Police Command has been drawn to allegations by Governor Siminalaiyi Fubara that police officers were at the RSIEC office to cart away sensitive electoral materials,”
“However, our deployment was a response to credible intelligence on planned arson attacks.”
The police won’t be voting, so Iringe-Koko reminded everyone to stay within the law.
“The Rivers State Police Command remains committed to maintaining peace and order. We will do everything possible to ensure public safety,” she stated.
