On Wednesday, the House of Representatives demanded that Speaker Tajudeen Abbas be given the national honor of GCON.
The lawmakers dissed the conferment of the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) on the Speaker.
This comes after President Bola Tinubu gave the GCON to Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, the Chief Justice of Nigeria.
Don’t forget, President Tinubu announced in his Independence Day speech that he’s going to give honors to our leaders.
On Wednesday, the Deputy Spokesman of the House, Philip Agbese, brought up a motion about how the House of Representatives is being treated unfairly compared to the Senate.
He was referring to the GCON given to the Senate President, Godswill Akpabio, which he thinks is unacceptable.
According to the protocol, the Speaker is 4th, so it doesn’t make sense why they treated the CJN better.
Each lawmaker took a turn to speak and made it clear they were speaking on behalf of the Speaker’s Office, not just for Abbas.
