According to South Korea’s spy agency, North Korea has deployed troops to Ukraine to support Russia, prompting concerns of a “grave security threat”.
The accusation follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s statement that he had intelligence suggesting 10,000 North Korean soldiers might join the war.
South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol urged for a security meeting and emphasized the need for a comprehensive international response.
The security meeting on Friday saw the presence of important officials from South Korea’s National Security Office, Ministry of National Defence, and National Intelligence Service, according to Yoon’s office.
The spy agency says 1,500 troops are already in Russia – with some sources saying it could be closer to 12,000.
North Korea seems to be supplying Russia with ammunition, as shown by the missile found in Ukraine.
Moscow and Pyongyang have been teaming up more lately.
Just last week, Kim Jong Un, the leader of North Korea, greeted Russian President Vladimir Putin on his birthday, describing him as his “closest comrade”.
