The NNPCL is sure it can boost oil production from 1.7 million to 3 million barrels a day, according to Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer.
Speaking in Abuja on Saturday, Soneye stressed that they need support from everyone, including security agencies, government, private oil companies, and host communities to achieve this goal.
According to him, President Bola Tinubu’s instructions to the security agencies are working – daily oil production has increased from 1.4 to 1.7 million barrels.
Soneye pointed out that if we all work together, we can stop oil theft and pipeline vandalism, and produce 2.5 to 3 million barrels of oil per day.
He mentioned that oil production had fallen to 900,000 barrels per day before private security agencies and military interventions.
Soneye is relieved that the increased efforts against oil theft have eased worries.
Also, Murtala Muhammad, Deputy Manager of the NNPC Command and Control Centre, mentioned that oil theft is still a big issue.
“Over 8,000 illegal refineries and 5,800 illegal oil pipeline connections were detected and destroyed within six months, primarily in Bayelsa, Rivers, Imo, and Abia.”
Prof. Taiye Obateru, who spoke at the event, emphasized the need for fair reporting in nation-building.
He urged journalists not to spread false information that could cause social crises.
“As journalists, you must shun mal-information, which manifests through fabricated contents, false contents, satire, and parody,” Obateru said
