The ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan, has opened up about his loss in the 2015 presidential race.
Jonathan has acknowledged that it was a difficult period in his political career.
He described a feeling as if everyone in the world was opposing him.
In Abuja, he made the confession at the 1st Raymond Dokpesi Annual Diamond Lecture, which was organized by Daar Communications in collaboration with the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations.
With a big smile, Jonathan spoke to the audience on Friday and said he couldn’t put into words how much he suffered.
The former Bayelsa deputy governor shared how Raymond Dokpesi from Daar Communications played a dad-like role before he handed over to Buhari.
What Happened After I Lost 2015 Election to Buhari — Jonathan
Jonathan said,
“It is not easy to lose an election as a president. You will think the whole world is against you. But then, Dokpesi invited me before I handed over. I remember what he said to me when I lost the election.
“There were so many senior Nigerians (elder statesmen) who spoke. After I listened to all the conversations, he congratulated me and encouraged me to look beyond the election. This is how I commemorated that session.
“That communication gave me hope and helped me not necessarily for the transition hour ahead of me but also in my spiritual life as a private citizen. If you read my book, My Transition Hours, I explain it more elaborately.”
Jonathan, who was from the Peoples Democratic Party (12,853,162), lost the 2015 election to Muhammadu Buhari from the All Progressives Congress (15,424,921 votes).
The election was the first time a sitting president lost in Nigeria.
