Ayodele Fayose, former Governor of Ekiti State, has dismissed the chance of reconciliation between Rivers State Governor, Siminalyi Fubara, and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Wike and Fubara are locked in a power struggle for political leadership of the oil-rich state.
The former allies are now enemies because they couldn’t agree on how to run the government and the PDP in the state.
The crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly has caused a lot of trouble. Everyone in the country is talking about it and demanding a political solution.
The aftermath of the controversial local government elections led to some serious violence in the state, resulting in the deaths of at least four people.
Hoodlums went wild and destroyed buildings in four local government secretariats, allegedly because they support Wike.
Fayose says Fubara and Wike Crisis in Rivers is way out of control.
Fayose said on Channels TV’s Sunday Politics show that it looks like there’s no way to politically resolve the conflict and unite the parties in Rivers.
He thought the whole political mess in Rivers State might have seriously messed up the trust between Wike and Fubara.
He also explained his earlier advice to the Rivers Governor, telling him not to mess with Wike.
‘’Particularly in a state like Rivers where we’re friends of the then outgoing governor now minister of FCT, all I said was in good faith and what I expected in the relationship of a leader that has brought up a successor. So what I said is what it ought to be.
‘’This crisis is unfortunate. Very unfortunate. I believe that the matter has crossed the Rubicon. The matter has gone far. Breach of trust and even if you want to resolve this matter, how do you put the trust back? So I rather want to believe that it’s too far in the day to call for reconciliation,‘’ he said.
