The People Democratic Party, called out President Bola Tinubu for allegedly making false claims in his Independence Day speech.
The opposition party said Tinubu’s speech showed that the ruling party doesn’t care about Nigerians’ struggles.
The APC said the PDP is just a frustrated party looking for attention.
In a statement on Tuesday, the PDP’s spokesperson, Debo Ologunagba, called Tinubu’s speech a “total waste,” saying it didn’t address the urgent economic and security problems we’re facing.
On Independence Day, President Tinubu delivered a speech emphasizing the need for reform to help Nigeria move forward.
The President mentioned that since he took office 16 months ago, his focus has been on reforming the political economy and defense in response to the nation’s challenges.
The PDP hit back at the speech for ignoring the challenges faced by millions of Nigerians, such as economic hardship, unemployment, and extreme poverty.
The other party said, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 64th Independence Day speech is just more empty promises and false performance claims.
They called out Tinubu for talking about economic improvement and lower living costs when fuel prices and unemployment are going up.
The PDP told President Tinubu to get more involved – they said he should go to markets or talk to young people in cities to really see what’s going on, instead of just trusting his officials’ made-up numbers.
The APC Director of Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, reacted by saying that the PDP’s response was just because they’re frustrated that the ruling party accomplished what they couldn’t.
He stated “For the PDP, rather than burying their heads in shame, they claimed the President’s speech is empty.”
“Since the PDP left office, the situation has improved day by day under the APC government.
During the PDP’s time, there was no peace in Abuja, making it difficult for a sitting president to address the nation from Eagle Square.
“Under an APC-led federal government, Nigerians are experiencing peace of mind.
Therefore, the PDP’s reaction to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s speech is nothing but an afterthought; they are merely reacting because they see what they failed to achieve being accomplished by the APC government.
By the grace of God, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will move Nigeria forward.”
