Iran fired lots of missiles at Israel as a response to the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah and others, possibly making things more dangerous in the region.
The attack killed one person and messed up a bunch of others, said the Israeli military.
Israel promised to retaliate, which has its allies concerned that the situation in the Middle East could get worse.
Speaking hours after the assault, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said:
“Iran made a big mistake tonight – and it will pay for it. The regime in Iran does not understand our determination to defend ourselves and our determination to retaliate against our enemies.”
Iran apparently fired 180 “projectiles” at Israel, according to the IDF. They said they stopped most of the missiles, but some hit Israel and the occupied West Bank.
The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, said later on Tuesday that Iran’s attack was basically defeated.
The attack happened fast, but it’s made the situation even more intense. Leaders have been warning for a while that the Israel-Iran conflict could turn into a big regional war.
Now everyone is watching to see how Israel reacts.
The US President, Biden, said they fully support Israel. But he said they’re still talking with Israel about what kind of response would work.
“We’re going to get all the data straight, we’re in constant contact with the Israeli government and our counterparts and that remains to be seen,” he said.
Israel is already in a battle on two fronts. They’ve been fighting with Hamas in Gaza since the October 7 terrorist attack.
Gaza is a total mess, with tons of Palestinians dead and the whole place in ruins.
Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire for most of the past year, but Iran started attacking on Tuesday after Israel announced a small ground operation in Lebanon.
Sending Israeli troops into Lebanon would have been a big deal for Iran.
Iran’s IRGC claimed they targeted Israel as a response to Nasrallah and others being killed.
The mission warned on X that if Israel has the audacity to respond or do more bad things, they’ll get hit hard.
