Good news: Google is offering free premium access to Google AI Pro with Gemini 2.5 Pro for a year to university students in Africa.

Google Gives African Students Free Access to Gemini 2.5 Pro

From October 7 to December 9, 2025, students in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Rwanda, South Africa, and Zimbabwe can use Google’s advanced AI tools as much as they want for their research, creative projects, and studies.

Google is trying to give students the AI skills they need to succeed in the job market.

The head of Google in Africa, Alex Okosi, noted that young people are bringing fresh ideas to the continent. So they want to give students their best AI tools so they can do great in school and help build the future.

For ₦28,500 ($19.39) a month, students get a premium plan that helps with serious research, summarizing papers, making reports, and fixing code.

Plus, they’ll get access to Google’s tools, including NotebookLM for note-taking, Veo3 to create presentations, and a whopping 2 TB of storage across Google Drive, Gmail, and Photos.

How can African students begin?

You’ll need a Google account and proof of enrollment (like your ID, schedule, and tuition receipt) to get these perks. SheerID will check your documents, and it shouldn’t take long. You don’t have to pay anything, but students need to add a payment method on the website.

It’s all part of Google’s effort to help Africa go digital. This new program is like what they’ve been doing with the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa, which has helped over 140 startups. The same with Digital Skills for Africa, which has trained millions.

The point of this is to make tech accessible and give African students the skills to succeed and be global leaders.”
