Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program Eligibility and How to Apply

To be eligible for a Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program, applicants must:

1) Be a citizen of an eligible country

2) You need a bachelor’s degree and at least five years of professional experience.

3) Had leadership skills and served the community.

4) Although you lack experience in the US, you can speak English.

If you’re interested, apply through the U.S. Embassy (Public Affairs Section) or Binational Fulbright Commission in your country. Application deadlines vary by country.

Applications must contain: 

  • Complete answers to all questions; essay responses in English must thoroughly address the prompt. 
  • Two letters of reference in English; one must be from the applicant’s current employer. 
  • Upload your official valid transcripts in English with a full list of courses taken and grades received. You only have to upload your diploma if the transcript doesn’t prove you got your degree.

After receiving approval from the Board, the US Embassies and Binational Fulbright Commissions will inform you of your status.

The Humphrey Fellowship isn’t a degree program. It’s made to give you professional enrichment based on what you’re into.

  • Professional Affiliation

The Humphrey Fellowship Program includes a six-week Professional Affiliation (PA) experience where Fellows can work with U.S. organizations, exchange ideas with professionals, and apply what they’ve learned in the real world.

  • Humphrey Seminar

The Humphrey Seminar is a must-do course for Humphrey Fellows to create their program goals. The main goals are to understand American society, meet people, and grow as a leader.

  • Global Leadership Forum

At the Global Leadership Forum, Humphrey Fellows can improve their leadership and professional skills.

  • Professional Development

The Humphrey Fellowship supports Fellows in advancing their careers and forming partnerships for impactful work.

You will get to do a lot of things like going to a U.S. community college, taking part in workshops, attending fancy events with important people, and so much more.

  • Academic Enrichment

Hubert Humphrey Fellowship Program assigns you to one of their host universities, considering the university’s impact areas and your professional expertise.
