The Knight Hennessy Scholars is a program at Stanford university funded by Dorothy and Robert King in the United States to meet students’ academic and leadership goals.
As a scholar, you build on your domain expertise through exposure to a wide range of disciplines and cultures within this program.
You will be part of the King Global Leadership Program (KGLP), where you’ll attend workshops, lectures, projects, and experiences to boost your leadership skills.
KGLP brings scholars together to tackle major issues like climate change, healthcare, government, and education.

Benefits of Joining the Knight Hennessy Scholarship for International Students
There are many benefits to joining the Knight Hennessy Scholars program, among which is the multidisciplinary and multicultural cohort.
1) A Multidisciplinary Cohort
Knight-Hennessy scholars span all seven schools at the Stanford university which brings you an array of diverse academic experiences.
So, you will work with other grad students to solve complex problems from different angles.
2) A Multicultural Cohort
Knight-Hennessy scholars also bring a wide range of cultural perspectives, covering gender, race, sexuality, religion, and more.
In every cohort, there’s a mix of people from all walks of life.

3) Adequate Funding
As a Knight-Hennessy scholar, you will receive funding for up to three years for any graduate degree of your choice at Stanford.
In the first year, you will receive a relocation stipend while you can apply for an additional funding in the second and third year.
Although this funding is specific to the degree you are applying for.
Eligibility to the Knight Hennessy Scholars Program
There are no restrictions whatsoever to applying for the Knight-Hennessy Scholars. The program encourages citizens and residents of all countries to apply without seeking a third-party endorsement.
1) Gain admission to Stanford
Beyond applying to Knight-Hennessy Scholars (KHS), you must enroll in a full-time Stanford graduate degree program.
You must either be a current Stanford graduate student or are applying to both KHS and Stanford at the same time to start in the same year.
You don’t have to worry about quotas by discipline or program, but those who will spend at least two years studying at Stanford will get more priority.
Also, you are not eligible if you are an applicant to any of the program listed below.
- Honors Cooperative Program
- Master of Liberal Arts
- Doctor of Science of Law (JSD)
- Coterminal Graduate Study
- CMA or MS Phd degree
2) Date of Graduation
Second, you must have earned your undergraduate degree not over six years from the date you submit an application.

But if you served in the military, then you have a Grace of 2 more years earlier.
The Knight-Hennessy Scholars accepts applications from June to October while Stanford applications closes by December.
How to Get Knight Hennessy Scholarship
You need to send in two different applications if you want to join this program. One to Knight Hennesy Scholars while the other to your chosen Stanford degree program.
And your application to Knight Hennessy Scholars must contain five components. They are:

- The resume,
- The transcripts and test scores,
- The recommendation letters, and
- The short answers and essay.
