In the last post, we discussed challenges, the second source of passion.
Today, we look at legacy as the third source of passion.
When you are young, you’re all about making more money, living better, and enjoying life.
But as you age, your priorities start to change. You want something that gives you more fulfillment. You want to achieve goals that people will remember you for.
As time goes on, it becomes more urgent. Your passion comes from wanting to leave a legacy.
Your work could totally leave a lasting impact on society.
Successful businessmen often establish foundations and NGOs to support noble causes. They want their name to live on for generations.
If you’re at this level, you won’t find joy in fleeting pleasures or small rewards. You are all about reaching your higher self.
When the goal is huge, the passion is intense. People like Gandhi and Che Guevara fought their whole lives for their countries’ freedom.
In South Africa, we have Nelson Mandela. In Nigeria, we have Obafemi Awolowo and more.
They wanted to make a difference in the lives of millions of their people.
Their legacy was everything to them, and they lived their whole lives chasing that goal.
How do you start building your legacy? What’s something you’re really passionate about?
Put down how you’re really feeling and what’s bothering you. They could be completely different from what you’re doing now.
Get started on those problems. If you have to, learn some new skills and get yourself to work.
It could be as simple as helping out in your community or as big as changing government and policy laws.
Don’t forget about all the amazing people who made a difference. You, too, could make one.
When pursuing your passion, remember to leave a legacy for others.
