This is an opportunity for anyone, with or without skills, to join the Nigerian Army as soldiers.

The regular army training lasts for 6 months and is for candidates with at least a Secondary School leaving Certificate.

But before we go on, let’s take a quick look at the history of the Nigerian Army.

Lt. Glover of the Royal Navy established the Nigerian Army in 1863, starting with the name “Glover Hausas”.

Glover, being the governor of Lagos, took his small team to protect the British trade routes. It was both the police and military for the Lagos colonial government.

It got incorporated into the West Africa Frontier Force (WAFF) in 1901 and became the “Lagos Battalion”.

The merger resulted in the formation of the Northern Nigerian Regiment and Southern Nigerian Regiment, with Lt CHP Carter as the first commander.

Nigerian Army Regular Recruitment Requirements

These requirements are a must if you want to apply to the Nigerian Army regular recruitment exercise.

1) Only Nigerian citizens who are single with the National Identity Card/NIN slip can apply.

2) You must be medically, physically and psychologically fit.

3) You must have a clean criminal record, with no convictions by a court of law.

4) To apply, you must have a birth certificate or age declaration approved by the National Population Commission, a hospital, or the local government council.

5) You must have a valid state of origin certificate.

6) Male candidates should be at least 1.68 meters tall, while female candidates should be at least 1.65 meters tall.

7) If you are applying as a non-trade, you must be between 18-22 years old, and if you are a tradesperson, 26 is the maximum age.

8) Young nurses and midwives can apply too, as long as they are not over 30.

9) You need at least 4 passes in WASSCE/GCE/NECO/NABTEB in a maximum of two sittings. If you’re applying as a tradesperson, you’ll also need a Trade Test/City Guild Certificate.

Requirements for the Nigerian Army Training Exercise

1) There will be no Pre-Selection Computer-Based Test.

2) No special center for recruitment as there will be no Zonal Screening Exercise.

3) Report to your state of origin for the screening exercise and don’t forget to bring your NIN slip.

4) Don’t bring any electronic or recording devices to the venue of the State Recruitment Exercise.

5) Stay healthy and safe by regular washing of hands, use of face mask, and observing physical distance.

6) If you falsify your results, and they catch you even during training at Depot, you are out.

7) Save yourself trouble by not bribing anyone to help you in the recruitment process.

8) The Nigerian Army will publish the names of shortlisted candidates on the official public website.
