The Biggest Risk Isn’t the Crisis You are Watching – Letter #31

Yesterday, PM Netanyahu flew to Washington to meet with President Trump about security in the region and Iran’s nukes.

On the same day, a U.S. official said Iran hit American troops in Jordan with missiles out of the blue. That may be an intense move that puts more pressure on President Trump to restart the war in a big way.

Every generation has a time when the world suddenly feels uncertain again.

Markets become nervous. News headlines are becoming more prominent. People question whether now is the time to invest or hire.

I’ve learned that uncertainty rarely announces itself politely. It simply arrives.

People who create real, lasting value aren’t the ones who see every crisis coming. They build systems that can outlast them.

This is true for businesses. It is true for careers. It is true for nations.

While you are watching breaking news, someone is improving a product. As the markets react by the minute, another founder is talking to customers. While fear dominates conversations, someone is writing code, inspecting a property, or learning a new skill.

Those are the people history remembers.

The news is important because it influences things around us. But they shouldn’t be in charge of your future.

Make sure your mission is more significant than current events.

Build things that’s useful no matter how the economy’s doing. Get skills that are always in demand, no matter who is your president.

If you can focus for a long time, you’ll do great things.

There’ll always be some new crisis. Your responsibility is to ensure your purpose outlives it.
