The best football boots are terrible for a marathon. The best camera is a poor choice if all you need is a phone call.
When you use “Best” without context, it is meaningless.
Yet we build our lives around that word.
You want the best job instead of the work that aligns with your assignments. We want to live in the best city instead of the one that gives us peace. We want the best business idea rather than the one that executes better.
It occurs to me sometimes, we don’t even know what we want.
That is why comparison is so expensive. You’re measuring your journey with someone else’s ruler.
I’ve noticed that the happiest builders don’t obsess over having the best. They obsess over finding the right fit.
Working with the right team for the project. Reaching out to the right customers. Being in the right place.
A colleague asked me, “What’s your best…..?”. I replied I don’t have the best of anything. Because the moment I have one, I may become attached to it.
A key that opens one door may be useless on another. That doesn’t make it a bad key. The manufacturer designed it for that lock.
If you don’t know this, you will feel left behind. You will all your life try to enter a race you shouldn’t be in .
So before you ask whether something is the best, ask whether it is yours. The answer to that question will save you years.
As for our parents. They want the best for us but sometimes don’t know what is best for us. You define what is the right fit for you.
See you tomorrow
